Hey everyone, Daisy here. So, apparently we’re doing this thing called “Shelter-in-place” to keep each other safe and healthy. I’m all for it! In fact, I’m enjoying it because I get to spend a ton of time getting to know my new moms, Lin and Dee. What’s not to like?
The shelter-in-place order started just one day after SVPP took me in from the shelter where I was rescued from being a stray. Can you believe that someone abandoned or lost me? With this face? Anyway, not long after, I was rescued again by Lin and Dee, a retired couple looking for a mature, loyal and loving dog to join their family. I don’t want to toot my own horn (too much!), but, based on what they tell me, I’m exactly what they wanted.
Lucky for me, “rescued” has always been Lin and Dee’s favorite breed. They took me home without knowing much about my history, and I trusted that they’d take good care of me. Not gonna lie, it took me a few days to adjust to my new home. I had been on my own as a stray for a while! Now that I’ve been here for two months, I must say — this is the life!
I have arthritis in my hips but I don’t let that stop me from playing like a puppy. My favorite toy is Moo Moo, a little cow that I love to throw in the air, play fetch with and run around with while my moms chase me. Sleeping is my other favorite hobby. And, why not? I have five doggie sleeping bags — one for every room in the house plus two cars — so I can lay my head down and doze off to sweet dreams (Moo Moo usually makes an appearance) whenever and wherever I want. Sometimes, though, I’ll mix it up and take a nap on one of my moms’ yoga mats or outside in the sun. I hear that vitamin D is good for you!
Once I’ve had my beauty sleep, I’m ready for more play time — and brain food! I love to play “find it” with my moms. They’ll hide treats around the backyard or in a cone, and it never takes me long to find them. What can I say, I’m a smart cookie! We also play the name game, because I’m still getting used to the name Daisy (they gave me the name at the shelter).
I also love going out for walks and breathing in the fresh coastal air in Santa Cruz. Lin and Dee let me lead the walks, so I point my noise in the direction I want to go in, and we go! During our walks, I’m also learning how to be less reactive towards other dogs. When we see another dog, I get rewarded with a treat if I look at my moms instead of the dog.
Every day I spend with Lin and Dee, I feel happier and more relaxed. I’m living my best life during shelter-in-place! To help another dog or cat do the same, check out SVPP’s adoptable dogs and cats. One of them could be your perfect shelter-in-place and forever companion.
Until next time,
Daisy
P.S. I would like to bark a thank you to my wonderful foster mom, Leanne Johnson, for taking me in and helping get me ready for my forever family.
