Little Ace came to SVPP this summer…a stray found in east San Jose, needing some TLC and dental care. We interviewed him about his journey from the streets to SVPP.
Ace, how did you come to SVPP?
I was found as a stray in east San Jose. I was not chipped — and had no tags on my old collar — so the shelter could not find anyone who owned me — and no one came to claim me. SVPP rescued me so that I could recover a bit, find security and happiness.
How was your health and how are you doing now?
Oh my gosh, let me tell you! I had infections in both ears and was covered in fleas. My choppers weren’t in good shape as I had severe tooth decay. And, oh, my fur! It was choppy and matted!
I’m happy to report that with time, excellent care from my foster mom, Kim, and continued support from SVPP, the ear infections healed, and a groomer had a go at making me the beautiful dog that I am! And last month, I had dental care at VCA Blossom Hill. Although I am young, I had several teeth pulled — and I am feeling so much better now! I have eight teeth left but you would never know it! I am happy with small kibble and always dig right in!
How do you like to spend your time?
I love car rides! In fact, if we are going someplace, I might try to get in the car first! I’m always ready to go, pretty much anywhere, and don’t even mind curvy roads! I jump around and wiggle with glee when I see my foster mom grab my leash and harness. I’m great on walks and I’m learning to play — I never had the chance before and I’m starting to choose toys that are fun. When all of the walks, rides and playing are done, I’ll happily nap in a sunny spot in the house or cuddle in my crates. Truth be told, my all-time favorite place is near my foster mom or on her lap!
What is the ideal home and family for you?
Because I had a rough time on the streets and as a stray, I’m slow to trust and need to go at my own pace. After some time and trust, I will love my forever family the same way I love car rides — with boundless energy and happiness! I would adore being in a good home where I can grow into becoming the best Ace possible — with love and patience, exercise and care, and maybe a few other small dogs, I know that will happen!
What else do you want to share with our readers?
I am a very quick learner, eager to please, and very treat motivated — which makes it easy to train me! I like being near humans the most, but love other little dogs, too. I’m friendly with strangers and quiet when my fosters aren’t home. Most importantly, I am ready to find my forever family!
